Artist-to-watch, TWINNIE, has just launched her brand-new EP, Better When I’m Drunk.
Recently signed to global major label BMG, the singer-songwriter is gaining attention in the UK and US for her country-pop tinged tracks, storytelling, and serious lyrical honesty.
The model, actress, and performer has spent significant time travelling backwards and forwards between her native UK and Nashville, writing and contact building.
The new EP – out now worldwide - is a teaser to Twinnie’s debut album which is due next year.
It features the piano-driven ballad Superhero, co-written in Nashville with Lucie Silvas and Jeremy Spillman, anthemic title track Better When I’m Drunk (which she describes as ‘showing the humour and the truth in what people actually feel on a night out versus the morning after’), as well as country-pop tinged, Type of Girl.
Each song is layered with authenticity, hidden messages and soul, and she’s quickly building a growing fanbase of support.
“I grew up in the north of England where typically people tell it how it is. I was always inspired by that honesty and I guess that shaped me as a songwriter. Living in a world of social media where everything and everyone is perceived to be perfect, I wanted to write songs that were honest and authentic to me.
“I really carried that thought throughout this creative process and I have no shame in highlighting my flaws and being vulnerable. Each song shows a different side of my personality and is an introduction of what to expect from my debut album.”
While she’s been co-writing with multi Grammy Award-winning writers and producers, Nathan Chapman, Liz Rose, and Dave Barns, Twinnie’s EP collaborators include Adam Argyle (Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, James Bay, James Arthur), Ryan Gore (Kacey Musgraves, Thomas Rhett, Kelly Clarkson), Yei Gonzalez (Jennifer Lopez, DJ Khaled, Cardi B), Jon Green (James Bay, Kylie Minogue, Lucie Silvas, James Bay), Jay Reynolds (Catherine McGrath, Kylie Minogue, Demi Lovato) and Lucie Silvas.
The road to a career in country music has been built on a passion for music and a vast experience in the theatre. Currently, she’s starring in new film, The Wife, alongside Glenn Close, Jonathan Pryce and Christian Slater.
But, throughout it all, music has been a constant.
At a guess, she says, she’s probably written in excess of 300 songs in the past couple of years.
“For years I’ve been back and forth to Nashville for writing,” says Twinnie. “I’ve written in London, LA, New York, Sweden and at home at the end of my bed. I taught myself to play piano and guitar, and put together a band. Everywhere I worked, I’d go out at night and play.
“Every job I’ve done has been to pay for myself to make music.”
